At its most fundamental, Mobile Data is the means by which businesses can communicate with employees in the field. Usually, this involves databases within the corporation being updated by employees using small handheld devices which are permanently connected – via a GPRS telephone signal – to the corporation’s network.
A typical application is that of a Parking Attendant. They can look at a vehicle and create a ticket on a Pocket PC, which then uploads the ticket information to a central database which can be hundreds of miles away.
At its best, Mobile Data enables employees to spend less time at their offices and more time in the field, whilst keeping their company’s information right up to date. The world is moving towards smaller devices which employees can easily carry and which give them a huge degree of independence, yet let their company know of their whereabouts and activities. The result? Your people are happier – and your data reaches you in a timely manner, gaining you huge competitive advantage.
What’s different about Integral Mobile Data?
IMD’s unique software model allows for the easy creation of new database applications. New forms can be created and in use within hours. There’s no need for users to wait for months for an IT department to make changes; now users themselves can create applications in a very short timeframe. IMD quote the example of a customer who required a new application and built it the same day– shortly after first seeing the software.
Are you already a Mobile Data user? Are you reliant on GPRS and a web-based front end?
Integral mForms® applications suite allows users to work at their handheld whether the handheld is online or not. If GPRS is available, systems can be constantly updated; if not, application data can be saved and uploaded when convenient. Many so-called ‘mobile’ applications are purely web pages transmitted via GPRS to handhelds. IMD’s rapid prototyping allows the quick generation of applications which require little code and which transmit only the data that has changed. With no screen re-paints, companies can save thousands of pounds in GPRS charges. |
